Bumper Re-Chroming Service

Even the smallest amount of rust, scratches, or chips in a chrome bumper can spoil your perception of a car. Many classic vehicles wear their age on their bumpers. While classic car bumpers were intended to take the abuse of every day driving, they are also an integral part of your vehicle's styling and design. A sharp classic style is the difference between a complete vehicle restoration and a project car.

Those of us who have had our fingers pinched and our knuckles scraped working on our classic vehicles understand that the effort is worth the final product. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. Is it worth the effort to recondition your chrome bumpers? At these rates it is!

At rates lower than the competition, you can have your bumpers reconditioned to factory quality! Even better, the parts should fit your vehicle again easily without any of the fabrication required for new parts. Chances are, the most difficult part of getting your bumpers re-chromed will be removing them from your vehicle in the first place.

We can work out a surprising amount of damage to bumpers and repair your bumpers as needed. Put your trust in us to refinish your bumpers, we are not just another chroming shop. Our employees fix, straighten, and re-chrome bumpers three shifts a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. With our history of working with every type of bumper over the years and our complete attention to detail, your vehicle will benefit from gleaming bumpers front and rear.

Don't trust 'Uncle Bobs House of Chrome' shops that sometimes work on a bumper between plastic light bezel projects. You want to be sure that your bumpers will come back to you without grinder marks, scratches, bends, or fouled plating. Only trust a company that has the manpower, specialized equipment, and quality controls in place to restore your bumpers properly.

Our Re-Chroming Process:

  1. Your Bumper is stamped with a serial number when it arrives at our facilities to be certain you get the same bumpers back.
  2. Next your bumper is put into the blast cabinet to remove old chrome and rust.
  3. Many Bumpers need metal welded in to replace rust damage. We TIG weld and grind smooth before the next step is taken.
  4. Next is the straightening process with pneumatic hammers and rams along with some old fashioned elbow grease to take care of large and small dents alike.
  5. We have hundreds of bumper templates for every make and model vehicle to match your bumper to it's original shape and massaged to fit.
  6. The polishing process begins with huge belt sanders to grind the surface of your bumper smooth eliminating high and low spots.
  7. Finer grits are used on the face and bumper ends in multiple machines to smooth and polish the bumper face.
  8. Bare bumpers are then buffed in preparation for the first layer of plating.
  9. The bumpers are washed thoroughly before plating to remove any dust, oil, or debris that might detract from the finish.
  10. The raw steel bumpers are then dipped into a 'nickel strike' tank to begin the chroming process.
  11. Next your bumpers are dipped in a copper plating tank washed between each step.
  12. After copper plating, the bumpers are sent into the copper-polishing room where a crew buffs and polishes your bumper to a mirror shine.
  13. Your bumpers are then dipped into multiple semi-bright, bright and chromeplating vats with a rinse between each dip.
  14. A final wash and polishing prepares your bumpers for their final inspection.
  15. Each bumper must pass a final inspection process before your bumpers are carefully wrapped and shipped back to you.
